18 SepTourism Spending Rises in Fredericksburg Region

Americans traveling into the Fredericksburg region spent about $594 million locally in 2011, a 6.8 percent increase over the year before.

That’s according to Virginia Tourism Corp. data released earlier this month. The data are based on direct spending by domestic travelers on items including meals, lodging, public transportation, auto transportation, shopping, admissions and entertainment.

The most money, about $229 million, was spent locally in Spotsylvania County,  followed by Fredericksburg ($153 million), Stafford County ($110 million), Caroline County ($82 million) and King George County ($19 million).
