SPOTSYLVANIA ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY AWARDS FIRST TWO “BIG” PROGRAM GRANTS

Spotsylvania, VA – October 11, 2011 — The Spotsylvania County Economic Development Authority (EDA) reviewed seven applications submitted for the $100,000 pool of funds authorized by the Spotsylvania Board of Supervisors, and awarded Business Incentive Grants to two companies which presented the clearest, most extensive information about their proposed uses of funds and benefits to the community.

Face2Face LLC (doing business as Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio) was awarded $3,000 for hiring and training of employees.

Downtown Garage Inc. was awarded $20,000 for facility improvements leading to four new jobs.

The premise of the Business Incentive Grant (BIG) program is to create quality employment opportunities and expand the tax base by offering new or expanding small businesses cash grants to partially defray the costs associated with start-up operations or expansion projects, thereby freeing business capital at a time when it is most urgently needed. This Economic Development Authority (EDA)/small business partnership benefits the County through an increased tax base, expanded job opportunities, and increased payroll in the Spotsylvania community.
