2013's CCHOAA
WINNER:
David Saltman
David Saltman, LCSW, a committed advocate for
aging programs and services, is particularly
passionate about helping prepare Florida for its
own longevity.
A licensed clinical social
worker with over four decades of experience, Mr.
Saltman was President and CEO of Jewish
Community Services of South Florida, the largest
non-profit social service agency in South
Florida from 2001 to 2008.
Upon his retirement, he became an adjunct
professor at Florida International University's
Robert Stempel College of Public Health and
Social Work. Since 2008, Mr. Saltman has also
been Chairman of the Health Council of South
Florida's (HCSF) Policy, Planning and Advisory
Committee, which advises the Health Council on
strategic planning, legislative agenda, and
other policy recommendations for Miami-Dade and
Monroe counties. In that capacity, he
spearheaded the establishment of the HCSF Annual
Scholarship Award to help address the healthcare
professional shortage in the community by
awarding scholarships to eligible students
focused on primary care.
Mr. Saltman is also the Chair of the Elder
Issues Committee of the Consortium for a
Healthier Miami-Dade, which works to improve the
health and well-being of Miami-Dade seniors
through health promotion and disease and injury
prevention programs. He provides direction to
the Miami-Dade Mayor's Initiative on Aging which
addresses healthcare disparities and increases
the knowledge of resources and rights of older
adults.
As a member of the Health Foundation of South
Florida's Healthy Aging Leadership Council, Mr.
Saltman works in a volunteer capacity with
local, state and national community leaders and
policy makers working to raise awareness about
healthy aging, forging new partnerships and
advocating for relevant public policies.
Mr. Saltman is an example of an older Floridian
who consistently "gives back." He dedicates his
time as a retired professional to various
leadership roles and advocacy activities focused
on improving the health and wellness of
Florida’s seniors. His sense of community is
exemplary, particularly in helping Florida
prepare for the impact of the aging of its baby
boomers.
Mr. Saltman exemplifies the vision and spirit of
