Max B.
Rothman joined the Alliance for Aging, Inc. in April, 2007 as
President and CEO to provide leadership and strategic planning
for older adults in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties, Florida.
The Alliance administers $35,000,000 of federal and state
funds through community agencies that provide a variety of
in-home, community-based, and residential services to elders.
The Alliance serves as the focal point for aging issues, and
is home to the Aging and Disability Resource Center that
provides access to services through information, referral,
intake for elders and adults with disabilities, as well as
their caregivers, and coordination of eligibility for the
Medicaid Managed Long Term Care Program.
He has
nearly forty-five years of experience in the field of aging,
having been founder and Executive Director of The Center on
Aging at Florida International University for 24 years.
Previously, he was the first District Administrator of the
Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services in
Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. He has served also as a Peace
Corps volunteer in Venezuela and as director of three Legal
Services programs for the indigent.
He has
written about emerging issues of elders and courts, and was
Co-Editor of Elders, Crime, and the Criminal Justice
System: Myth, Perceptions, and Reality in the 21st
Century (2000). He has authored and co-authored many
other publications on aging issues and is the recipient of
numerous awards, including the 2012 Path Award for Health
Policy and Management from the Robert Stempel College of
Public Health and Social Work at Florida International
University. During his tenure at the Alliance, the Alliance
has received many awards for its innovative programs for older
adults. The National Association of Area Agencies on Aging
awarded the Alliance’s programs 11 times with Aging
Innovations & Achievement Awards. In addition, the Alliance
received the Universal Access Award from the South Florida
Digital Alliance, a Sunshine Award from the South Florida
Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for Community Health Services
Advocate of the Year, the Pillar Award from United HomeCare
Services, the Soaring Eagle Award from the Senior Community
Services Employment Program as an Elder Friendly Business, and
a MarCom Platinum Award for its website. He has recently
made presentations about the Alliance’s projects concerning
cargiving, transportation and mobility options, and enhancing
elder access to computers. He was a member of the National
Advisory Committee for the Hurricane Fund for the Elderly,
Grantmakers in Aging, and a Delegate to the 2005 and 2015
White House Conferences on Aging.
He
received his undergraduate degree from Lafayette College, a
JD degree from the
University of Michigan Law School, and a Master of Laws degree
from The George Washington University Graduate School of
Public Law in Washington D.C.
